Prostatic Hyperplasia
Benign prostatic hyperplasia
Også kjent som: Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, BPH, Cystic Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, CBPH
Kort fortalt
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common, non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland that affects intact male dogs as they age. Driven by normal hormonal changes, BPH can cause straining to defecate, bloody urine, or discharge. Fortunately, it is highly treatable and completely curable through surgical castration, while medical options exist for breeding dogs.

TL;DR. Ikke-kreftaktig forstørrelse hos intakte hanner; pressing, blod eller flod; behandles godt med kastrasjon eller legemidler.
Prostatas forhold til blære og rektum.
Hva er det?
Spontan ikke-malign forstørrelse. DHT: hyperplasi/hypertrofi; cyster mulige. Kompresjon av urinrør/rektum.
Årsaker og risikofaktorer
Hormonal aldring fra ~2 år. Ingen dokumentert rasepredisposisjon.
Tegn å se etter
- Tenesmus
- Hematuri
- Dysuri/pollakisuri
- Prepucial flod
- Båndformet avføring (av og til)

Ultralyd: struktur og cyster.
Hvordan veterinærer diagnostiserer
Rektal undersøkelse, bilde, CPSE; biopsi ved tvil.
Behandlingsalternativer
Kastrasjon kurativ. Finasterid medisinsk førstelinje.
Prognose
Utmerket under behandling.
Forebygging
Kastrasjon forebygger; rektale kontroller hvis intakt.
Når ringe veterinær
Akutt: kan ikke urinere, sterk smerte, feber, bakbenssvakhet.
