Congestive Heart Failure

También conocido como: CHF, Congestive Heart Disease

Revisado por veterinarioCatDogUrgencia: EmergencyFrecuencia: Common

En resumen

Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a serious but manageable condition in dogs and cats where the heart cannot pump blood efficiently, causing fluid to build up in the lungs, chest, or abdomen. Recognizing early signs like coughing and rapid breathing can help you get your pet life-saving veterinary care.

Monitoring your pet's resting respiratory rate at home is one of the most effective ways to detect early signs of fluid buildup.

TL;DR.

Perros: enfermedad valvular degenerativa y miocardiopatía dilatada (MCD). Gatos: miocardiopatía hipertrófica (MCH).

Signos a vigilar

  • Cardinal: edema pulmonar
  • Frecuentes: tos (perros), disnea, taquipnea (reposo >30-40/min es alarma), derrame pleural, ascitis, intolerancia al ejercicio, debilidad
  • Ocasionales: distensión yugular, hepatomegalia, síncope, caquexia cardíaca
  • Raros: shock cardiogénico

Diagnóstico

Auscultación (soplo, galope, crepitantes), mucosas, pulso.

  • Radiografía torácica: cardiomegalia, edema o derrame
  • Ecocardiografía: causa estructural
  • ECG / Holter: arritmias

Tratamiento

Urgente (24 h): tos nueva o peor, anorexia, abdomen hinchado, menos energía.

Razas concretas

Dóberman: ECG y Holter anuales antes de signos. Irish Wolfhound: vigilar fibrilación auricular. Maine Coon: test genético de MCH y eco basal.
