Feline hepatic lipidosis, commonly known as fatty liver disease, is a serious, life-threatening metabolic condition where fat builds up rapidly in a cat's liver cells. Often triggered by a period of decreased appetite, this condition requires prompt veterinary intervention. Fortunately, with early diagnosis and aggressive, long-term nutritional support, the disease is highly reversible, and most cats can make a full recovery.

Wat is het?
Massale vetophoping in de kattenlever na dagen zonder eten.
Oorzaken en risicofactoren
Anorexie (ziekte, stress), eerdere obesitas, diabetes, pancreatitis. Hoog risico bij overgewichtige katten die stoppen met eten.
Signalen
- Cardinaal: anorexie, icterus, lethargie
- Vaak: braken, gewichtsverlies, dehydratie
- Soms: neurologische tekenen, spierzwakte
Geelverkleuring van oren en slijmvliezen is cardinal.
Diagnose
Anamnese, bloedonderzoek, echo en vaak levercytologie.
Echo: heldere lever door vet.
Behandeling
- Vroege geassisteerde voeding (sonde)
- Vocht en elektrolyten
- Antiemetica en support; oorzaak van anorexie behandelen
Prognose
Beter bij vroege voeding; zonder support slecht.
Preventie
Geen vasten bij overgewichtige katten; anorexie vroeg aanpakken.
Wanneer de dierenarts
Spoed: kat eet 24-48 u niet, icterus, braken, sterke zwakte.
