Pericardial effusion is a life-threatening veterinary emergency where fluid builds up in the sac surrounding the heart. This pressure prevents the heart from filling with blood, leading to weakness, breathing difficulties, and potential collapse. Immediate veterinary intervention is critical to drain the fluid and restore normal heart function.

Væskeansamling i hjerteposen som komprimerer hjertet (tamponade) og reduserer minuttvolumet.
"Cardiac tamponade develops when pericardial fluid accumulation raises intrapericardial pressure to or above the normal diastolic pressure of the right side of the heart, preventing normal filling."
Årsaker og risikofaktorer
Neoplasi (hemangiosarkom, kemodektom) og idiopatisk hemorragisk; store raser: golden, labrador, sankt bernhard, schäfer.
Tegn
- Dempede hjertelyder (kardinal)
- Dyspné, anstrengelsesintoleranse, ascites, bleke slimhinner
- Kollaps, svak puls
Ascites speiler høyresidig stuvning.
Diagnostikk
Ekokardiografi (gull); røntgen (globoidt hjerte); EKG (lav spenning, elektrisk alternans); væskeanalyse.
Ultralyd viser den komprimerende væsken.
Behandling
Perikardiocentese akutt. Ingen diuretika/vasodilatorer før drenasje. Steroider ved idiopatisk; perikardektomi ved residiv.
Prognose
Idiopatisk ofte god. Neoplastisk: reservert til dårlig.
Forebygging
Ingen spesifikk forebygging; kontroller hos risikoseraser.
Når ringe veterinær
Dyspné, kollaps, bleke/blå slimhinner, spent buk: akutt nivå 5.
