Pericardial Effusion

Aussi appelé: Pericardial fluid accumulation, Hemorrhagic pericardial effusion

Revu par un vétérinaireCatDogUrgence: EmergencyFréquence: Common

En bref

Pericardial effusion is a life-threatening veterinary emergency where fluid builds up in the sac surrounding the heart. This pressure prevents the heart from filling with blood, leading to weakness, breathing difficulties, and potential collapse. Immediate veterinary intervention is critical to drain the fluid and restore normal heart function.

Echocardiography is the gold standard for identifying fluid within the pericardial sac.

TL;DR. Liquide autour du cœur empêchant le remplissage; urgence en cas de tamponnade.

L'échocardiographie est l'étalon-or.

Qu'est-ce que c'est ?

Accumulation de liquide dans le sac péricardique compressant le cœur (tamponnade) et réduisant le débit cardiaque.

"Cardiac tamponade develops when pericardial fluid accumulation raises intrapericardial pressure to or above the normal diastolic pressure of the right side of the heart, preventing normal filling."

Causes et facteurs de risque

Néoplasie (hémangiosarcome, chémodectome) et idiopathique hémorragique; grandes races: golden, labrador, saint-bernard, berger allemand.

Signes

  • Bruits cardiaques assourdis (cardinal)
  • Dyspnée, intolérance à l'effort, ascite, muqueuses pâles
  • Collapsus, pouls faible

A German Shepherd lying down with a swollen abdomen indicating fluid buildup.
L'ascite reflète la congestion droite.

Diagnostic

Échocardiographie (or); radiographies (cœur globuleux); ECG (bas voltage, alternance électrique); analyse du liquide.

L'échographie montre le liquide compressant le cœur.

Traitement

Péricardiocentèse en urgence. Pas de diurétiques/vasodilatateurs avant drainage. Corticoïdes si idiopathique; péricardectomie si récidive.

Pronostic

Idiopathique souvent bon.
