Em resumo

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a common and serious heart disease primarily affecting cats, and occasionally dogs, characterized by abnormal thickening of the heart muscle. This guide covers symptoms, genetic risks, diagnostic tests, and treatment options.

Comparison diagram of a normal cat heart and a cat heart with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
In hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, the muscular wall of the left ventricle becomes abnormally thick, reducing the space available for blood.

TL;DR. Espessamento do ventrículo esquerdo, sobretudo em gatos; risco de insuficiência cardíaca ou tromboembolismo arterial.

A parede do VE engrossa e reduz o enchimento.

O que é?

Doença primária do miocárdio: VE espesso e rígido, congestão pulmonar, risco de tromboembolismo arterial (ATE).

Causas e fatores de risco

Maioritariamente genética no gato. Raças: Maine Coon, Ragdoll cats, American Shorthair, Persian, British Shorthair, Norwegian Forest Cat, Scottish Fold, Bengal Cat. Excluir hipertensão e hipertiroidismo.

Sinais a vigiar

  • Frequentes: taquipneia, dispneia, letargia; por vezes assintomática
  • Ocasionais: síncope, paralisia aguda dos membros posteriores (ATE)

Respiração de boca aberta no gato é urgência.

Diagnóstico

Eco cardíaco, radiografias, ECG, pressão arterial, T4.

An echocardiogram screen displaying a cross-section of a feline heart.
A eco mede espessura e função.

Tratamento
