Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Også kendt som: HCM, Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, HOCM

Kort sagt

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a common and serious heart disease primarily affecting cats, and occasionally dogs, characterized by abnormal thickening of the heart muscle. This guide covers symptoms, genetic risks, diagnostic tests, and treatment options.

Comparison diagram of a normal cat heart and a cat heart with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
In hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, the muscular wall of the left ventricle becomes abnormally thick, reducing the space available for blood.

TL;DR. Fortykkelse af venstre ventrikel, især hos kat; risiko for hjertesvigt eller arteriel emboli.

LV-væggen fortykkes og mindsker fyldning.

Hvad er det?

Primær myokardsygdom: tyk, stiv LV, lungestase, risiko for arteriel tromboemboli (ATE).

Årsager og risikofaktorer

Ofte genetisk hos kat. Prædisposition: Maine Coon, Ragdoll cats, American Shorthair, Persian, British Shorthair, Norwegian Forest Cat, Scottish Fold, Bengal Cat. Udeluk hypertension og hyperthyreose.

Tegn

  • Almindelige: takypnø, dyspnø, letargi; undertiden asymptomatisk
  • Lejlighedsvise: synkope, akut bagbensparalyse (ATE)

A cat showing signs of respiratory distress with an open mouth and extended neck.
Mundrespiration hos kat er akut.

Diagnostik

Echo, røntgen, EKG, blodtryk, T4.

An echocardiogram screen displaying a cross-section of a feline heart.
Echo måler tykkelse og funktion.

Behandling

Prognose

Meget variabel; efter CHF eller ATE mere reserveret.

Forebyggelse

Screening hos risikoracer.

Hvornår dyrlæge

Akut: mundrespiration, takypnø i hvile, kollaps, akut bagbensparalyse.

Racespecifikt

Ejere af Maine Coon, Ragdoll cats: drøft screening-echo.
