Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a common and serious heart disease primarily affecting cats, and occasionally dogs, characterized by abnormal thickening of the heart muscle. This guide covers symptoms, genetic risks, diagnostic tests, and treatment options.

TL;DR. Épaississement du muscle du ventricule gauche, surtout chez le chat ; risque d'insuffisance cardiaque ou de caillot artériel.
La paroi du VG s'épaissit et réduit le remplissage.
Qu'est-ce que c'est ?
Maladie primaire du myocarde : VG épais et raide, congestion pulmonaire, risque de thromboembolie artérielle (ATE).
Causes et facteurs de risque
Surtout génétique chez le chat. Races : Maine Coon, Ragdoll cats, American Shorthair, Persian, British Shorthair, Norwegian Forest Cat, Scottish Fold, Bengal Cat. Écarter hypertension et hyperthyroïdie.
Signes à surveiller
- Fréquents : tachypnée, dyspnée, léthargie ; parfois asymptomatique
- Occasionnels : syncope, paralysie aiguë des postérieurs (ATE)

Respiration bouche ouverte chez le chat : urgence.
Diagnostic
Écho cardiaque, radio, ECG, pression artérielle, T4.

L'échocardiographie mesure l'épaisseur et la fonction.
Traitement
- ICC : Furosemide ; oxygène si besoin
- Risque de caillot : Clopidogrel ou Aspirin si OG dilatée
- Adjuvants : Atenolol, Diltiazem selon cas ; Spironolactone en appoint
Pronostic
Très variable ; après ICC ou ATE, plus réservé.
Prévention
Dépistage chez races à risque ; pas de prévention primaire fiable pour tous.
Quand appeler le vétérinaire
Urgence : respiration buccale, tachypnée au repos, collapsus, paralysie postérieure aiguë.
Races concernées
Propriétaires de Maine Coon, Ragdoll cats : discuter une écho de dépistage.
