Cutaneous lymphoma is an uncommon but serious skin cancer in dogs and cats where abnormal white blood cells accumulate in the skin, causing persistent redness, scaling, hair loss, or lumps that can easily be mistaken for chronic allergies.

Wat is het?

Maligne lymfocyten in de huid. Epitheliotroop (vaak T-cellen, epidermis/mond) vs. non-epitheliotroop (B/T, dermale/subcutane knobbels).

Oorzaken en risicofactoren

Oorzaak onduidelijk. Leeftijd verhoogt risico. Hondenrassen: Boxers, Scottish Terriers, Golden Retrievers, Rottweilers.

Signalen

  • Vaak: jeuk, schilfering, plaques/knobbels, erytheem, alopecia
  • Soms: voetpadhyperkeratose, orale ulcera, mucocutane depigmentatie, lymfadenomegalie

Diagnose

FNA beperkt; biopsie/histopathologie gouden standaard. Staging: bloed, echo, thoraxfoto, lymfeklier-FNA.

Behandeling

Systemisch: COP Chemotherapy Protocol. Supportief: antibiotica/antimycotica, medicinale baden, analgesie.

Prognose

Langzaam progressief, genezing zeldzaam. Epitheliotroop vaak trager; non-epitheliotroop vaak agressiever/systemisch eerder.

Preventie

Geen bewezen preventie. Vroege biopsie bij refractaire dermatose.

Wanneer de dierenarts bellen

Spoed: collaps; aanhoudend braken/diarree; strakke buik; ademnood.

Voor specifieke rassen

Boxer, Scottish Terrier, Golden Retriever, Rottweiler: chronische huidveranderingen en knobbels vroeg laten afklaren, niet alleen als allergie afdoen.
