In breve

Cutaneous lymphoma is an uncommon but serious skin cancer in dogs and cats where abnormal white blood cells accumulate in the skin, causing persistent redness, scaling, hair loss, or lumps that can easily be mistaken for chronic allergies.

A golden retriever with visible hair loss and red, flaky skin on its side.
Cutaneous lymphoma can cause widespread hair loss, redness, and scaling that mimics severe allergies.

TL;DR.

"Nonepitheliotropic lymphoma is a malignant neoplasm that may arise from B or T lymphocytes. It is uncommon in dogs and cats, with highest incidence in older animals. Usually, nonepitheliotropic lymphoma appears as multiple, firm,"

Cause e fattori di rischio

Causa sconosciuta. L'età aumenta il rischio. Razze canine: Boxers, Scottish Terriers, Golden Retrievers, Rottweilers.

Segni

  • Comuni: prurito, desquamazione, placche/noduli, eritema, alopecia
  • Occasionali: ipercheratosi dei cuscinetti, ulcere orali, depigmentazione mucocutanea, linfoadenomegalia

A cat's muzzle showing loss of pigment and small ulcerations around the lips.
Possibile depigmentazione e ulcere mucocutanee.

Diagnosi

FNA limitata; biopsia/istopatologia gold standard. Staging: sangue, eco, radiografia toracica, FNA linfonodale.

"Distinguishing these requires a biopsy sample to assess the tissue distribution of lymphocytes in relation to the epidermis, and this cannot be done with cytological samples."

Trattamento

Sistemico: COP Chemotherapy Protocol. Supporto: antibiotici/antimicotici, bagni medicati, analgesia.

Prognosi

Lentamente progressivo, guarigione rara. Epiteliotrópico spesso più lento; non epiteliotrópico spesso più aggressivo/sistemico prima.

Prevenzione

Nessuna prevenzione comprovata. Biopsia precoce in dermatite refrattaria.

Quando chiamare il veterinario

Emergenza: collasso; vomito/diarrea persistenti; addome teso; distress respiratorio.

Per razze specifiche

Boxer, Scottish Terrier, Golden Retriever, Rottweiler: valutare presto lesioni cutanee croniche e noduli, non solo come allergia.
