Intussusception is a life-threatening veterinary emergency where one segment of the intestine telescopes into another, causing a severe blockage and cutting off blood flow. Prompt surgical intervention is typically required to save the animal's life.

Un segment glisse dans le segment adjacent et comprime l'apport sanguin.
Qu'est-ce que c'est ?
Obstruction mécanique. Mésentère comprimé : ischémie, nécrose, péritonite septique si rupture. Urgence maximale.
Causes et facteurs de risque
Parasites, parvovirus, corps étrangers, gastro-entérite, tumeurs. Prédisposition : berger allemand, labradoodle, golden retriever ; jeunes plus à risque.
Signes à surveiller
- Vomissements
- Douleur abdominale
- Diarrhée sanglante peu abondante
- Masse palpable en saucisse
- Anorexie, abattement
Douleur abdominale sévère et abdomen tendu.
Comment les vétérinaires diagnostiquent
Palpation, échographie (cible), radiographies, lavement baryté ou coloscopie. Laparotomie exploratrice.
Options de traitement
Chirurgie : réduction si viable, sinon résection-anastomose. Fluides, analgésie, antibiotiques.
Pronostic
Souvent bon si chirurgie précoce sans péritonite.
Prévention
Vermifugation, vaccination, transitions alimentaires lentes, éviter objets ingérables.
Quand appeler le vétérinaire
Immédiatement si vomissements persistants, douleur abdominale, selles sanglantes ou collapsus.
