Canine Distemper
Canine distemper virus
Auch bekannt als: CDV Infection, Canine Distemper Virus Infection, Hard pad disease
Kurz gesagt
Canine distemper is a highly contagious, severe viral disease affecting dogs and ferrets. It attacks multiple body systems, including the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems, often leading to irreversible neurological damage. Understanding its signs, diagnostic process, and the critical importance of vaccination is essential for every pet owner.

TL;DR.
Canine-Distemper-Virus (CDV, Morbillivirus): Lymphoidgewebe → Epithel → oft ZNS. Lymphopenie und Fieber, dann Atemwege/GI/Haut/Augen und neurologische Progression.
"CDV is shed in respiratory secretions for up to 90 days after infection. Initial replication of CDV is in lymphoid tissue, and viral destruction of lymphocytes results in lymphopenia and pyrexia."
Ursachen und Risikofaktoren
Aerosol und Körperflüssigkeiten. Ungeimpfte Welpen 6–12 Wochen und Frettchen höchstgefährdet; auch Wildcarnivoren als Reservoir. Keine Rasseprädisposition.
Anzeichen
- Myoklonus (kardinal) in Ruhe/Schlaf
- Fieber, Depression, eitriger Nasen-/Augenausfluss, Husten, Erbrechen/Durchfall, Pusteln, Hyperkeratose Nase/Balllen, Anfälle, Ataxie (häufig)
- Augenentzündungen, KCS, Abort, old dog encephalitis (gelegentlich)

„Hard pad“: verdickte, rissige Ballen und Nase.
Diagnose
Klinik + CBC (Lymphopenie), Thoraxröntgen, Konjunktivalzytologie, RT-PCR (Goldstandard), IHC, ggf. CSF. Impfhistorie bei PCR beachten.

Röntgen beurteilt sekundäre Pneumonie.
Behandlung
Kein kuratives Virostatikum. Supportiv: IV-Flüssigkeit, Antibiotika gegen Sekundärinfekt, Atemtherapie, Antiemetika, Antikonvulsiva. Glucocorticoids selektiv (z. B. Optikusneuritis) nach Phase. Strenge Isolation bis zu 90 Tage Ausscheidung.
Prognose
Oft schlecht bei ZNS-Zeichen; Frettchen nach Klinik fast immer fatal. Überlebende können Myoklonus, KCS oder Schmelzhypoplasie behalten.
"CNS disease is generally progressive and carries a poor prognosis; it can develop in some dogs that never had systemic signs of disease recognized."
Vorbeugung
Core-Impfung Welpen 6–18 Wochen, Auffrischung; Frettchen-spezifische Impfung; Quarantäne; Desinfektion.
Wann den Tierarzt rufen
Notfall bei ungeimpftem Tier mit Anfällen/Myoklonus, Atemnot, eitrigem Ausfluss, Kollaps, schwerem Erbrechen/Durchfall, plötzlicher Blindheit.
