Nasal tumors are uncommon but serious growths in the nasal cavities of dogs and cats. While most are malignant and locally aggressive, early detection combined with radiation or chemotherapy can help manage symptoms and extend your pet's quality of life.

O que é?

Tumores nas fossas ou seios (carcinomas, sarcomas, linfoma). Metastases precoces raras; destruicao local forte.

Causas e fatores de risco

Causa desconhecida. Irritantes ambientais possiveis. Mais em idosos; sem raca constante.

Sinais a observar

  • Secrecao nasal (cardinal)
  • Epistaxe, menos fluxo de ar, espirros
  • Ocasional: assimetria facial, exoftalmia, sinais neuro

Como os veterinários diagnosticam

Exame, TC/RM, rinosopia, biopsia (padrao-ouro), estadiamento; gatos FeLV/FIV.

"Nasal tumors usually occur in older animals but cannot be excluded from the differential diagnosis of young dogs and cats. No breed predisposition has been consistently identified."

Opções de tratamento

Radioterapia de escolha. Cirurgia isolada raramente basta. Quimioterapia (linfoma). Paliativo: AINE, esteroides.

Prognóstico

Sem tratamento: meses. Com radioterapia: muitas vezes 12-18 meses ou mais.

Prevenção

Avaliar cedo secrecao cronica ou sangramento.

Quando chamar o veterinário

Urgente: epistaxe continua, dispneia grave, sinais neuro.

Em raças específicas

Sem racas fixas; sinais nasais cronicos merecem estudo.
