Nasal tumors are uncommon but serious growths in the nasal cavities of dogs and cats. While most are malignant and locally aggressive, early detection combined with radiation or chemotherapy can help manage symptoms and extend your pet's quality of life.

Cos'è?

Tumori di fosse o seni (carcinomi, sarcomi, linfoma). Metastasi precoci rare; distruzione locale forte.

Cause e fattori di rischio

Causa sconosciuta. Possibili irritanti ambientali. Piu negli anziani; nessuna razza costante.

Segni da osservare

  • Secrezione nasale (cardinale)
  • Epistassi, flusso ridotto, starnuti
  • Occasionale: deformita facciale, esoftalmo, segni neuro

Come diagnosticano i veterinari

Esame, TC/RM, rinosopia, biopsia (gold standard), staging; gatto FeLV/FIV.

"Nasal tumors usually occur in older animals but cannot be excluded from the differential diagnosis of young dogs and cats. No breed predisposition has been consistently identified."

Opzioni di trattamento

Radioterapia di scelta. Chirurgia da sola raramente sufficiente. Chemioterapia (linfoma). Palliativo: FANS, steroidi.

Prognosi

Senza cura: mesi. Con radioterapia spesso 12-18 mesi o piu.

Prevenzione

Valutare presto secrezione cronica o sanguinamento.

Quando chiamare il veterinario

Urgente: epistassi continua, dispnea grave, segni neuro.

In razze specifiche

Nessuna razza fissa; segni nasali cronici meritano indagine.
