Nasal tumors are uncommon but serious growths in the nasal cavities of dogs and cats. While most are malignant and locally aggressive, early detection combined with radiation or chemotherapy can help manage symptoms and extend your pet's quality of life.

¿Qué es?

Tumores en fosas o senos (carcinomas, sarcomas, linfoma). Malignos e invasivos. Metastasis precoz rara.

Causas y factores de riesgo

Causa desconocida. Irritantes ambientales posibles. Mas en mayores; sin raza constante.

Signos a vigilar

  • Secrecion nasal (cardinal)
  • Epistaxis, menos flujo, estornudos
  • Ocasional: asimetria facial, exoftalmos, signos neuro

Cómo lo diagnostican

Examen, TC/RM, rinoscopia, biopsia (estandar de oro), estadificacion; gatos FeLV/FIV.

"Nasal tumors usually occur in older animals but cannot be excluded from the differential diagnosis of young dogs and cats. No breed predisposition has been consistently identified."

Opciones de tratamiento

Radioterapia de eleccion. Cirugia sola rara vez basta. Quimio (linfoma). Paliativo: AINE, esteroides.

Pronóstico

Sin tratar: meses. Con radioterapia: a menudo 12-18 meses o mas.

Prevención

Detectar pronto secrecion cronica o sangrado.

Cuándo llamar al veterinario

Urgente: epistaxis continua, disnea grave, signos neuro.

En razas concretas

Sin razas fijas; signos nasales cronicos merecen estudio.
