¿Qué es?
Tumor oseo primario maligno (mas en perros). Destruye hueso y metastatiza pronto a pulmon. En gatos menos metastatico.
Causas y factores de riesgo
Tamano/peso, edad y genetica en razas grandes/gigantes.
Signos a vigilar
- Dolor oseo (cardinal)
- Cojera e hinchazon (frecuentes)
- Fractura patologica (ocasional)
Cojera persistente e hinchazon local son signos precoces.
Cómo lo diagnostican
Radiografias de la extremidad; torax 3 vistas o TC; FNA/biopsia.
"Once a presumptive radiographic diagnosis has been established and if the owners are contemplating treatment, thoracic radiographs or CT should be obtained to determine the extent of the disease."
Opciones de tratamiento
Amputacion + quimio (Carboplatin, Cisplatin, Doxorubicin). Paliativo: Pamidronate, radioterapia.
Pronóstico
Amputacion sola ~4-5 meses; con quimio ~12-18 meses. Gatos mejor.
Prevención
Detectar cojera pronto; cria responsable.
Cuándo llamar al veterinario
Urgente: cojera grave subita, disnea o tos.
En razas concretas
Greyhound, Great Dane, Rottweiler, Labrador Retriever.
