Meestal lange pijpbeenderen van grote rassen.
Wat is het?
Maligne primaire bottumor (vooral hond). Vernietigt bot, metastaseert vroeg naar long. Bij kat minder metastatisch.
Oorzaken en risicofactoren
Grootte/gewicht, leeftijd, genetica van grote rassen.
Signalen
- Botpijn (kardinaal)
- Kreupelheid en zwelling (vaak)
- Pathologische fractuur (soms)
Aanhoudende kreupelheid en lokale zwelling zijn vroege tekenen.
Diagnostiek
Rontgen van de poot; thorax 3 standen of CT; FNA/biopsie.
"Once a presumptive radiographic diagnosis has been established and if the owners are contemplating treatment, thoracic radiographs or CT should be obtained to determine the extent of the disease."
Behandeling
Amputatie + chemo (Carboplatin, Cisplatin, Doxorubicin). Palliatief: Pamidronate, bestraling.
Prognose
Amputatie alleen ~4-5 maanden; met chemo ~12-18 maanden. Kat beter.
Preventie
Kreupelheid vroeg laten beoordelen.
Wanneer de dierenarts bellen
Urgent: plotselinge zware kreupelheid, dyspneu of hoest.
Bij specifieke rassen
Greyhound, Great Dane, Rottweiler, Labrador Retriever.
