Wat is het?
Misvormd mitralisapparaat. Regurgitatie overheerst; stenose is zeldzamer. Dilatatie LA/LV en longoedeem.
Oorzaken en risicofactoren
Embryonale fout. Anders dan degeneratieve mitralisziekte bij oudere honden. Raspredispositie.
Tekenen
- Holosystolisch geruis (cardinaal)
- Hoesten
- Tachypneu / dyspneu
- Inspanningsintolerantie
- Inappetentie
- Atriumfibrilleren (soms)
Inspanningsintolerantie en zware ademhaling komen vaak voor.
Hoe dierenartsen diagnosticeren
Auscultatie, Doppler-echo (gouden standaard), röntgen, ECG.
Echo beoordeelt de malformatie en de graad van regurgitatie/stenose.
Behandelopties
Diuretica, vasodilatatoren, ritmecontrole; geen medicamenteuze structurele reparatie.
Prognose
Variabel: mild vaak goed; ernstig vaak vroeg falen.
Preventie
Aangedane dieren niet fokken; echo vóór de fok.
Wanneer de dierenarts bellen
Direct bij dyspneu, rustademhalingsfrequentie >40, syncope of bleke/blauwe slijmvliezen.
Voor specifieke rassen
Grote/reuzenrassen (mastiff, rottweiler, Duitse herder, golden, newfoundlander, Deense dog) en sommige kleine.
