En bref

Foreign body ingestion occurs when a pet swallows a non-food item that becomes stuck in their digestive tract. This common, life-threatening emergency requires immediate veterinary care to prevent severe complications like tissue damage, obstruction, or perforation.

Common household items can quickly become life-threatening hazards if swallowed by curious pets.

TL;DR.

Causes

Jeu, chiots/chatons, pica. Os, jouets, aiguilles, fils ; furets : caoutchouc/mousse.

Signes

  • Vomissements/régurgitation, hypersialorrhée, douleur abdominale, anorexie, déshydratation (fréquents)
  • Dyspnée, fièvre (occasionnels)

Une posture voûtée indique souvent une douleur abdominale.

Diagnostic

Palpation, bouche (fil), radiographies, contraste, échographie, endoscopie.

"Imaging and endoscopy are the mostreliable means of diagnosis."

Traitement
