Étirement anormal et perte de tonus du côlon.
Qu'est-ce que c'est ?
Dilatation du côlon avec hypomotilité. Selles sèches et impactées : constipation ou obstipation. Chez le chat souvent idiopathique.
Causes et facteurs de risque
Idiopathique (chat). Acquis : bassin étroit, tumeurs, nerfs, déshydratation, constipation chronique. Manx prédisposé.
Signes à surveiller
- Constipation / obstipation (cardinal)
- Défécation douloureuse, ténesme
- Selles dures et sèches
- Vomissements, déshydratation, léthargie
Le ténesme est fréquent chez le chat.
Comment les vétérinaires diagnostiquent
Palpation, toucher rectal, radiographies, biochimie, échographie si besoin.
Options de traitement
Évacuation sous sédation. Lactulose + Cisapride. Échec : colectomie subtotale. Cefoxitin si indiqué.
Pronostic
Médical : réservé. Après colectomie subtotale souvent favorable.
Prévention
Eau, régime adapté, surveillance des selles. Consulter si effort >24 h.
Quand appeler le vétérinaire
Urgence si vomissements, collapsus, efforts infructueux avec cris, sang, abdomen dur ; ou >48 h sans selles.
