¿Qué es?
Trastorno reproductivo frecuente. Estasis preovulatoria: folículos en el ovario. Estasis postovulatoria (egg binding): huevos/fetos retenidos en el oviducto. Sin tratamiento: descomposición, infección y muerte.
Causas y factores de riesgo
Nido inadecuado, frío, deshidratación/déficit de calcio, huevos deformes o grandes, obstrucciones. Frecuente en tortugas, lagartos y serpientes.
Signos
- Imposibilidad de poner (cardinal): pujos, inquietud, excavación sin resultado
- Hinchazón abdominal, letargo, anorexia (frecuente)
- Debilidad de tren posterior (ocasional)

La radiografía es el estándar de oro para huevos calcificados.
Diagnóstico
Palpación; radiografía; ecografía si es preciso; cultivo/biopsia del oviducto si hay infección.
Tratamiento
Estabilización (calor, fluidos, calcio, nido). Si falla u hay obstrucción: salpingotomía o ovariosalpingectomía (curativa, estéril).
Pronóstico
Con intervención temprana suele ser bueno; retrasada y séptica, mucho peor.
Prevención
Nido adecuado, gradiente térmico correcto, calcio/D3 e hidratación, poco estrés.
Cuándo llamar al veterinario
Si no pone en el plazo esperado. Urgencia: pujos sin huevo, letargo extremo, abdomen muy distendido, secreción cloacal fétida.
