What Is Gait Analysis?
Gait analysis examines how your pet walks and moves. Peqaboo's AI can detect subtle changes in movement patterns that might indicate joint problems, injuries, or neurological issues — sometimes before they become obvious to the naked eye.
How to Record a Good Video
- Find a flat surface: A hallway, sidewalk, or open floor works best. Avoid grass or uneven terrain.
- Film from the side: Position yourself perpendicular to your pet's walking path. The camera should capture the full body from head to tail.
- Keep it steady: Hold the phone at your pet's body height, not from above.
- Normal pace: Let your pet walk at their natural speed — don't rush or encourage running.
- 10-15 seconds: A short clip is enough. Include at least 4-5 complete stride cycles.
Tip: For the best results, also record from the front and back views. This helps the AI assess lateral and front-to-back symmetry.
What the AI Looks For
- Limping or favoring — Is your pet putting less weight on one leg?
- Stride asymmetry — Are steps uneven in length or timing?
- Head bobbing — A sign of front leg pain (head drops when the good leg hits the ground).
- Hip drop — Indicates hind leg issues or hip problems.
- Stiffness — Reduced range of motion in joints, common in arthritis.
- Swaying or wobbling — Could indicate neurological issues.
Interpreting Results
The AI provides a movement score and highlights any areas of concern. Green means normal, yellow means monitor, and red means consult your vet.
Track Progress
Gait analysis is especially powerful when tracked over time. After surgery, during recovery, or as your pet ages, regular analyses help you and your vet monitor progress objectively.
Tip: Share your gait analysis history with your vet during checkups. It provides objective data that complements clinical examinations.
