Reptiles Do Not Get Travel Sickness: The Real Risk on a Journey Is Temperature
Reptiles do not experience motion sickness the way mammals do, and no travel sickness remedy is appropriate for them. The thing that actually harms a reptile on a journey is temperature, in both directions, and it is entirely preventable with planning.

Why the risk is thermal, not nausea
Motion sickness in mammals comes from a mismatch between what the balance organs of the inner ear report and what the eyes see, processed by a vomiting centre in the brain.
Reptiles are built differently. They have vestibular organs, and they clearly notice movement, but they do not produce the mammalian nausea and vomiting response to it.
What they do produce is a stress response, and stress in a reptile interacts with temperature at every step.
A reptile carrying a recent meal that is then cooled below its normal range cannot digest it. The food sits in the gut and ferments, and the animal may bring it back up. That looks like travel sickness and is nothing of the kind.
The fix is not an anti-nausea drug. It is not feeding before a journey and keeping the animal within its temperature range throughout.

Insulation and a hide do more for a travelling reptile than any product marketed for travel sickness.
What good thermal planning looks like
Start with your species range. Every decision below refers back to the temperature band your particular animal needs, so know the numbers before you plan the trip.
Bring the vehicle to a stable temperature before the animal goes in. Loading a reptile into a freezing or baking car and then hoping the climate control catches up is the most common mistake.
Measure inside the transport container, not the car. Put a probe in the closed empty container, let it settle, and read it. The interior of an insulated box lags well behind the cabin.
Position the container away from direct sunlight, away from heater vents and away from air conditioning outlets. A footwell in the rear is usually more stable than a seat by a window.
Insulate rather than heat where you can. A box inside a cool bag, or wrapped in a towel, buffers change in both directions without creating a hot spot.
If a heat source is needed in genuinely cold conditions, it must be separated from the animal by insulation so no surface it can touch is hot. Reptiles do not reliably move away from a burn.
Plan the route so the animal is never left behind while you stop.

Gaping or open-mouth breathing.
In a transport container this almost always means overheating. Remove the heat source and get the container into cooler air at once.
Frantic movement, climbing, or pressing against one side.
The animal is trying to escape a temperature it cannot tolerate. It is a thermal signal, not a behaviour problem.
Limpness, very slow movement, or failure to right itself.
This is a cold animal, and cold reptiles look deceptively peaceful. Warm gradually and get advice.
Regurgitation.
Stop offering food and contact a reptile vet. Repeated regurgitation causes damage in its own right.
Skin that stays discoloured or looks scorched.
Thermal burns from a heat pack in contact with the animal need veterinary treatment.

Do not give any human or mammal travel sickness medication, sedative, or herbal calming product to a reptile.
Do not feed a large meal in the days immediately before a planned journey. Digestion and transport stress do not mix.
Do not place a heat pack, hot water bottle or hand warmer where the animal can touch it.
Do not judge the container temperature by how the car feels to you. Your comfort range and your reptile's are not the same.
Do not put the animal back into an enclosure that has not yet reached its normal temperature.

Contact a reptile-experienced veterinarian the same day for gaping that continues after cooling, limpness that does not resolve as the animal warms, any suspected thermal burn, or regurgitation.
Book this week if the animal does not return to normal behaviour and appetite within a few days of the journey.
Bring the recorded container temperatures, the length of the journey, the date of the last meal, your enclosure readings, and the species and weight. The temperature log is the piece of information that usually explains what happened.
