Xylitol Toxicity

Auch bekannt als: Xylitol ingestion, Xylitol poisoning

DogDringlichkeit: Emergency

Kurz gesagt

Xylitol toxicity is a life-threatening emergency in dogs caused by the ingestion of a common sugar substitute. It triggers a massive release of insulin, leading to dangerously low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and potentially devastating liver damage. Immediate veterinary intervention is critical for survival.

Many common household items, such as sugar-free gum, contain toxic levels of xylitol.

TL;DR.

Das Hundepankreas setzt massiv Insulin frei, was Hypoglykämie auslöst. Höhere Dosen: akute Lebernekrose.

"Certain toxins have been associated with hypoglycemia in dogs and cats... These drugs are thought to stimulate insulin secretion from the pancreas..."

Zeichen

  • Hypoglykämie (kardinal)
  • Ataxie, Schwäche, Faszikulationen, Krämpfe, Kollaps
  • Unruhe; Lebernekrose/-versagen oft nach 24–48 h

A weak and wobbly dog showing signs of coordination loss.
Ataxie und Schwäche sind frühe Zeichen.

Diagnostik

Expositionsanamnese und Klinik. Sofortige und serielle Glukose. Leberenzyme baseline und seriell 24–72 h.

Behandlung

Kein spezifisches chemisches Antidot. Emesis nur wenn sehr frisch und asymptomatisch. Kohle bindet schlecht. IV-Dextrose-Bolus + CRI; SAMe und Acetylcysteine bei Leberrisiko.

Häufige Glukosekontrollen sind essenziell.

Prognose

Notfall Stufe 5. Jeder Verdacht: sofort anrufen. Verpackung mitbringen.
